Incorporating Reserach Strategies and Sources for Information
On the Decatur High School Library Wiki, there is an entire page devoted to the Senior Research Project. On this page, I appreciate that there is a blend of places to find information about the students' topic and places to find information about how to conduct research. Instead of simply providing pathfinders that link to websites, this Wiki also includes a video of how Boolean terms work and teaches students how to research. This is a great combination of resources.
Incorporating Images of Search Screens to Give Directions
On the Tisch Library Wiki, there is a page devoted to a writing assignment that is for first-year students. Specifically, on this site they have a screenshot of the search tool used for databases. They have also drawn in a detailed description of how to use the tool. This allows students the comfort of knowing what to anticipate on a search screen without the physical presence of a librarian. I think using screenshots to prepare students for research is a great idea.
Downloadable Research Worksheets
As a part of the Springfield Township High School Library Wiki, the librarian has provided access to downloadable worksheets that lead students through the research process. The nine-page worksheet provides students with the chance to brainstorm, narrow their topic, develop search terms, and evaluate resources. I think this is a great way to provide extra help to students that need it - even when they are away from the library.
